Out of every wedding vendor we work with on a wedding day when it comes to videography, the DJis the most important person who actually has the most impact on how your wedding film turns out. Below are all of the reasons why with a quick elaboration to fill you in on the details that are important for you to know as the bride and groom.

1. Capturing Your Audio

On your wedding day your DJis going to provide their services for events like your ceremony, grand entrance, first dances, toasts, bouquet toss, and garter toss.

A great DJ will allow us to plug a recorder into their system to capture any audio. An excellent DJ like Robert will give us a back up option by recording internally into his system. He sent the audio to me the day after the couple’s wedding day.

These two audio sources are often our two best options to use. We usually have a third back up option to those as well.

As videographers, we always want to have multiple sources of audio of every important moment from your day – in particular your spoken-audio during your wedding ceremony and toasts.

2. Coordinating with Your Vendor Team

An excellent DJ will double check with your photographer and videographer before beginning any important event. Too many DJs come up short with this. We can’t tell you how many times a DJ has started a reception event without the thumbs up from the photo-video team. This really shows a lack or professionalism and care to make your wedding a huge success.

3. Creating an Amazing Atmosphere

If you want your wedding highlight film to have amazing reception footage, make sure you hire a great DJ. Don’t be afraid to talk to your DJ when hiring them about the atmosphere you’re hoping to create. If they’re awesome, they’ll love the opportunity to create something unique for you that’s well within their skillset.

4. The DJ Has No Idea How To Work With a Videographer

Wedding when we’re working with inexperienced DJs are always the most stressful for us. Some have no idea that their system can record audio internally and that we can plug into their system to record audio. Even worse, they won’t know which outlets and cords are needed to connect our recorder to their system.

Make sure you ask your DJ if they can be ready to work with your videographer on recording your ceremony and reception speeches. Robert is phenomenal to work with so if you’re reading this and already planning to hire him he’ll have you covered. Also, you made an amazing choice to hire him. You’re lucky to have found such a phenomenal DJ!

Our Advice When Hiring a DJ and Videographer

Make sure each is personable, a team player, and that there’s a great chance they’ll get along super well.

Daytona

I just got back from Daytona Florida and I’m hitting the ground running trying to knock out edits and pictures. I got to make some content for Cheer Society. Cheer Society is a social networking app for cheerleaders, trickers, stunters and acro and anyone in the world of flipping them selves around. I got to do some social media content for 509, a club I DJ’ed last year. I collabed with AKVisuals and Kyler Holland, both content creators for Varsity(cheer company) and Flowcheer. My good friends Josh and Tony, aka thatravlr on IG. Being able to travel and have friends in different states and countries really reminds me how lucky I am.

Our first guest is recognizable to anyone familiar with the local Nacogdoches music scene, Casey Williams from Starr Avenue Co. Casey needs no introduction to most, but for the few unaware of who he is or what he’s all about here is his own description of Starr Avenue Co.:

An idea intended to bridge gaps in communication by providing opportunities for comUNITY involvement via art, music, and creativity.”

In this first episode with Mr. Williams, we discuss topics ranging from Williams‘ career as a DJ, his international business travels and his tips for a work/life balance.

Our second guest is the admirable Tim Bryant. Bryant, one of Texas’ top authors, is no stranger to the world of podcasting. He co-hosts a podcast called “The Tim and Jim Show” and it is certainly worth a listen. Our special with Tim Bryant has topics that range from his time living and working as a musician in Lousiana, writing his first novels to how he ended up running a local bookstore in Nacogdoches (“The Bosslight“).
